Stewardship of open systems for scientific and environmental work.

PGSDF is a public-interest body convened to steward open systems infrastructure for environmental research, scientific computing, and the communities that depend upon it — on a horizon longer than any single project, vendor, or grant cycle.

Mission

The infrastructure of science is maintained, in practice, by small teams under chronic resource constraint.

The Foundation was convened on that recognition. PGSDF exists to hold such infrastructure in stewardship on behalf of the communities that depend upon it, and to maintain it on a horizon longer than any single project, vendor, or grant cycle.

  1. iOpen standards over vendor lock-in.
  2. iiReproducibility over opaque automation.
  3. iiiDurable systems over disposable platforms.
  4. ivLong-term maintenance over short-term novelty.
  5. vPublic infrastructure over proprietary dependency.
